Why Refuse 2 Lose Coaching? I have been an athlete and a coach for the majority of my life. I wasn’t born with the most talent in the world but I have been moderately successful. Why? To me, it has been about toughness. I have always strived to be in the best physical shape possible, and I have used my brain to give me an extra edge or to compensate for not as much talent. Thus, I am a firm believer in toughness. As a coach, I preached to my team that we were not going to concentrate on wins or losses, but that our
goal was to be the most mentally tough team in the best physical shape. I knew if we achieved that, then we would have our share of wins and we did.
Therefore, if you ask me you can create success through toughness- physical and mental (mind and body). Hence, I
wanted to create a venue where I could help many other athletes achieve success. If you get everything out of your body you can and you use your mind to the max, then you have
succeeded – you have done the best you possibly could. Better yet, you have refused to lose!
“Refuse 2 Lose” was adopted during an important tennis match to determine who went to nationals. I was in the heat of the moment and was constantly shouting to one of our guys, playing the determining match, to “Refuse 2 Lose”. The slogan stuck and it has been an occasional rally cry for my teams.
“Refuse 2 Lose” is not just about winning matches, games, etc. “Refuse 2 Lose” is about knowing you are a winner even if the scoreboard says otherwise because you know you gave everything you have, mentally AND physically.
