Overcoming Adversity

Adversity is often seen as a bad thing, something to avoid. However, in order to accomplish anything worthwhile, adversity is necessary. We need it! It allows us to show what we are capable of. We need adversity to help us accomplish something great, or if it were easy, anyone could do it.

Think about it. If every game you played, you won by a large margin. If you never had a bad call, go against you. If you never experienced injury or sickness, or if you never had to come from behind to win would you feel that you had accomplished something worthwhile?

The thing that separates the great from the mediocre – the champions from the contenders – is how they view adversity. Your perception determines your response which ultimately influences the outcome. Therefore, if you want to be successful you must change how you look at adversity. Choose to embrace it, to make it your best friend.

We will experience many challenges during our lives. The successful, happy person is the one that looks for the opportunity in adversity.

They decide to not be a victim but a winner. In “Think and Grow Rich,” Napoleon Hill put it this way: “Every adversity has the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.” The true secret to success is the ability to embrace adversity as a chance to change ourselves and our situation.

The key is to change the way you think about adversity. Learn to love it. You have to learn to see it, think about it, and respond to it in a positive or productive way. Adopting a “this is good” mindset will allow you to do it.

There are several key components to overcoming adversity and experiencing success. Unity + Positive Emotions (Focus + Confidence) = Success.

My belief is that a team with positive emotions, unified for a common goal will find success and be able to better overcome obstacles in their way. I will introduce these concepts and then dive deeper into them in the upcoming month. -taken from “This is Good: A Journey in Overcoming Adversity”
