In softball, as with any other sport, there are many aspects of the game. Some seem more important or critical than other but the most important aspect of any game is the mental
game.
Going to college brought many more challenges than travel ball or high school softball. By improving my mental game, I was able to take my game to the next level. Specifically, I learned that there are things that I can control and there are things that I cannot control. By focusing only on the things
of the game that I can control I can make myself a better player.
Perhaps the biggest improvement for me as a player was learning to focus more on the process than the results. In the game of softball failure is more common than success. I was focusing more on the results and getting more and more frustrated. Once I began to focus on the process, and the parts of the game that I could control, I became a better player and a more consistent player, physically and mentally.
Working on my mental game has made me a better athlete and a better person. I am able to use what I have learned both on and off the field.
